Beautiful Driving Day - Getting Moss Challenge Photos

Today, Saturday, May 24, was a beautiful day to take a drive and accumulate points for the Moss Motors Challenge.  We got 1 city, 3 counties, and 7 destinations photos.  We now have a total of 75 points.  More points will come when we travel to French Lick.

SPECIAL EVENT NOGGIN & NATTER - Day 1 near Galax, VA

Noggin & Natter

PLACE:  Mike and Anita Weekes' house in Independence, VA

TIME:  Arrive after 11 am, Thursday, June 12

Their house is in the woods just above the river (pictured above).  It is about half way between Galax and Independence (AFTER you go through Galax and BEFORE Independence).  The address: 3387 Pleasant Grove Rd, Independence, VA 24333.  The phone number at the house is 276 773 3335.

- It is pretty easy to find.

- Take US 58 west out of Galax, heading toward Independence, VA.

- Go about 6 miles and you will cross the New River on a 4 lane bridge.

- As you cross the bridge, get into the left lane and take the first left after you cross the New River.

- That is Pleasant Grove Rd (Hwy 715).

- After about 1/4 mile it will become a gravel road, so just spread out, go slow, the dust won't be too bad.

- Follow Pleasant Grove Rd (Hwy 715) along the river for about a mile and a half.

- There are camp grounds and travel trailers parked along the river.

- When you pass the last camper you will see our cow pasture along the river.

We have  a picnic shelter by the river where we can have lunch if the weather permits.  The house is up the hill to the right off Pleasant Grove Rd.  A couple of stone columns mark the entrance to Two Rivers Farm.  Everyone can come up to the house and enjoy the "facilities".  If the weather is not nice, we can have our lunch or snacks up at the house.  We have lots of bedrooms if anyone needs a power nap.

Abingdon, VA & Abingdon, UK are sister cities. The Visitors' Center is hosting us for a Natter.

3 p.m. - Arrive & Check in at Quality Inn and Suites
4:30 p.m. - Arrive at Town Hall for Abingdon VA/UK Talk & Photo Opportunity
Park across the street in Barter's lot. Town Hall is to the left of the theatre. 
5:30 p.m. - Explore Downtown
6:30 p.m. - Dinner at The Martha (or other restaurant of choice) 
7:30 p.m. - Barter Theatre (purchase ticket - two shows your choice)
